BUILDING BARRIERS TO SAVE FROGS
Join us for a trip to the Moravian Karst and help us build safe migration routes for thousands of amphibians who cross the roads each spring. By participating, you will support local volunteers who are responsible for transporting thousands of frogs. Together, we will build barriers that saved 13,000 frogs last year.
WHAT WE'LL BE DOING
We will be working outdoors with tools like pickaxes and hoes to dig trenches and set up plastic barriers along the roads. Be prepared for physical labor that includes digging, driving stakes, and stretching barriers. You’ll help protect the frogs from being run over by cars and contribute to creating safe paths for them.
No previous experience or skills are required – this event is open to anyone who is willing to lend a hand!
SUPPLEMENTARY PROGRAM
The event won’t just be about work! Throughout the day, you’ll learn many interesting facts about the challenges of protecting amphibians in the Moravian Karst. You’ll also get to know the "frog taxi" network – a group of volunteers who move thousands of frogs across dangerous road sections every day for several weeks. You'll meet a community of friends, neighbors, and volunteers who regularly participate in nature conservation in the region and get inspired on how you can become part of similar activities.
IMPORTANT
In case the ground is too frozen to work on the original date, we have a backup date. If this happens, the event will be moved to the following weekend.
DATE: 21. – 23. 2. 2025
LOCATION: We will be working at one of three locations: Arboretum Křtiny, Josefovské Valley, or Češkovice. The exact location will be confirmed before the event, with the most work expected at Arboretum Křtiny.
The Frog Patrol is a group of volunteers focused on protecting amphibians during their spring migration. Each year, they help thousands of frogs cross dangerous roads where they might otherwise perish. They build temporary barriers and transport amphibians across roads to ensure their safe journey to water bodies. In addition to this practical work, they organize educational talks for schools. Activities mainly focus on the Moravian Karst and Blanensko regions.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
ACCOMMODATION
Ubytování nebude v místě konání akce, ale v blízké obci Ostrov u Macochy, odkud se budeme do terénu přesouvat autem či autobusem. Přesnou adresu Ti zašleme do e-mailu.
MEETING POINT
We will meet on Friday in the evening at the accommodation. The exact time will be confirmed shortly before the event.
MEALS
Meals will be provided throughout the event, except for Friday dinner. We may share the preparation of breakfasts and dinners. Any dietary restrictions should be discussed with the leader before the event.
WHAT TO BRING
- Warm work clothes suited for the weather (something you don’t mind getting dirty)
- Work gloves
- Warm, preferably waterproof work shoes or boots
- Sleeping bag
- Personal hygiene items, towel
- Slippers
- Water bottle
- Friday dinner

We will depart on Sunday afternoon. The exact return time will be confirmed before the event.
