WAKING UP THE COMMUNITY GARDEN
Bring the community garden just outside Prague to life and enjoy a one-day volunteer event. The Pravý Hradec association in Klecany is an inspiring place that is worth getting to know, or better yet... experiencing firsthand. When you hear what the people behind the association have already managed to build, you will believe that anything is possible!
On the last Saturday in March, we will set out together to help with intensive spring maintenance of the community garden, which the locals find difficult to manage on their own. The garden is open to children and adults and also serves as a place of relaxation for seniors from the local nursing home.
This event is ideal for anyone who wants to try volunteering or cannot get away for the whole weekend.
WHAT WE'LL BE DOING
We will spend the whole day in the garden on the site of the former barracks. We will help with digging flower beds, weeding, and raking, move compost and soil, and prepare the ground for new plantings. If conditions allow, we will also start excavation work for a future pond and repair some of the breeding facilities.
Thanks to our help, the garden will not only breathe new life into the new season, but will also become more accessible to children and nature—the new sandpit will expand the play area and the pond will attract more wildlife.
You don’t need any previous experience or skills to join – this event is open to anyone who’s ready to lend a hand!
SUPPLEMENTARY PROGRAM
Volunteering isn't just about work. You'll have the opportunity to learn more about how the association works, its history, and its current activities. You'll get to see the whole place and learn firsthand how community life and natural spaces are being developed in the middle of Klecany.
DATE: 28. 3. 2026
LOCATION: Pomník padlým čs. letcům, Dolní Kasárna, Klecany
Founded in 2007, Pravý Hradec takes its name from important archaeological findings confirming the existence of a Slavic settlement on the right bank of the Vltava River in Klecany. The organization’s mission is to create opportunities for people of all ages to connect and strengthen the local community.
Their Klíček center offers diverse programs, from art and education to sports activities, welcoming both children and adults. They also organize camps, excursions, anniversary celebrations, and neighborhood gatherings to foster social bonds.
A key focus of Pravý Hradec is supporting seniors, for whom they have established a community garden at the local care home. This space is open to young families as well, promoting intergenerational interactions and shared moments in nature.
