PARK AND ORNAMENTAL GARDEN IMPROVEMENT
The weekend at Veselí Castle was marked by the revitalization of the adjacent park and ornamental garden. A group of enthusiastic volunteers, including nine-year-old Emma and accompanied by six-month-old Hermina, embarked on a wide range of activities and completed over 72 hours of work over the weekend. They created a new seating area out of old beams, giving the garden a cosy feel, prepared a flower bed in the garden and weeded two rooms on the ground floor of the castle. You read that right - they weeded inside because the rooms had no roof and the weeds were growing through the tiles and linen! :-)
The experience was climbing the old tower of the castle. The journey up was challenging and a little dangerous, but the volunteers were rewarded with spectacular views from several floors of the tower, which still retains its original staircase, bookshelves and trophies.
The volunteers slept in a nearby village and spent their evenings together. After a campfire at the castle, they watched hockey, some at home and others at a local pub around the corner. On Sunday afternoon, after completing all the tasks and having lunch together, some volunteers made their way home, while others used their free time to explore the beauty and sights of the Šumava foothills.
Thank you all for the great work and pleasant company. We look forward to more events and new experiences!

The association was founded for the purpose of restoring the castle in Veselí nad Úhlavou near Klatovy, making it accessible to the public and using it for cultural, social and educational purposes. The first mention of this monument dates back to 1404, when Jan of Veselí had a water fortress built on the site of today's castle. In the 19th century, the fortress was converted into a chateau. It is now in a state of disrepair and volunteers from all over the world are helping to preserve this ancient jewel.
